JULY HIGHLIGHTS
New CLE Webinar: Rethinking the Outside Counsel RFP
A new CLE webinar is now available and free to all OnPoint Community members. Jason Winmill and Jeffrey Solomon separate RFP myth from best practice, sharing practical ways to compare firms more meaningfully, evaluate value and fit beyond cost, and bring greater consistency to outside counsel selection. You will also learn how to preserve the benefits of an RFP long after firms have been selected.
New: OnPoint of View Podcast CLOC Episodes!
At CLOC 2026, Jean and Nick connected with leaders exploring what AI means for the future of legal operations. Listen now on Spotify, YouTube, and Apple Podcasts.
Featured episode, from the CLOC stage: “LIVE at CLOC Chicago - Kim Wolfe”
Jean and Nick spoke with Kim Wolfe, Senior Managing Director, SVP and CAO for Legal and Head of Legal Operations at State Street. They discussed how in-house teams can stay proficient with their outside counsel, the squeeze of rising law firm rates against shrinking budgets, and how AI can turn spend management into a source of intelligence, not just a way to get bills paid.
“The next stage is using our billing data to better understand our spend—where we are investing, whether we have the right mix of timekeepers, and what intelligence we can draw beyond simply getting bills paid.”
— Kim Wolfe, State Street
Available now on Spotify, YouTube, and Apple Podcasts.
LIVE at CLOC Chicago - Michael Farlekas
Jean and Nick spoke with Michael Farlekas, CEO of Onit, about where he sees the legal tech market heading and what to expect next from Onit. They discussed why Onit is building its own legal language model, Olava, the advantages of small language models, and a fun question: if Michael could be CEO of any company, where would he go?
“The frontier models are trying to solve everything. We’re focused on going down a narrow path and doing that really well.”
— Nick Whitehouse, Onit

Participate Today: The State of AI Adoption and AI Expectations Peer Survey
How is your organization approaching law firm use of AI?
OnPoint Community by Onit and LegalOps.com are conducting a short survey to better understand how corporate legal departments and law firms are approaching AI, from billing guidelines and approval requirements to data privacy expectations and measuring value.
Your input will help shape a community benchmarking report on the state of AI expectations for and adoption among outside counsel, providing valuable insights into how peers are approaching law firm AI. There is no hard deadline, but we will be presenting the results at Running Legal Like a Business in early September, so please try to complete the survey in the next two weeks, ideally by Friday, August 21. Everyone who participates will be sent the final report once it is ready.
Individual and firm-level responses are confidential and will be reported only in aggregate. Your contact information is used solely to send you the report.
